Leia Organa makes forceful case for Quarren-Mon Cala ion
cannon-type weapon deal

Old Republic frontrunner for Imperial Senate nomination qualifies support by saying
broader strategy needed to address Separatists’ ‘bad behavior in the sectors’.

Leia Organa offered her most robust
endorsement yet of the ion cannon-type deal negotiated under the Bail Organa former
Old Republic administration between Quarren-Mon Cala and six middle rim planets.

The senatorial candidate made her case
in a speech at the Coruscanti Institution on Coruscant, as the Imperial Senate
formally begins its debate on the accord in anticipation of a vote to
disapprove the deal. Organa, who stated her support for the agreement shortly
after it was reached, elaborated on her position while emphasizing continued
skepticism of the Quarren-Mon Calamarian regime.

Organa said the Empire faces a choice
to either “move forward on a path to diplomacy or turn down more dangerous path
leading to a far less certain and riskier future”.

The senatorial candidate said the deal
“blocks every pathway for Quarren-Mon Cala to have an ion-cannon type weapon
aboard starships” and that it was “unrealistic” to get a better deal, as some
opponents claimed was possible.

However, Organa maintained her distrust
for the Quarren-Mon Calamarian regime. “I too am deeply concerned about Quarren-Mon
Cala aggression and need to confront it,” she said. “There is absolutely no
reason to trust Quarren-Mon Cala.” Instead, she insisted her approach to
dealing with Quarren-Mon Cala’s independent military would be “distrust but
verify”.

Organa’s disdain for the Quarren-Mon
Cala government was evident when she dismissed the old Republic’s cooperation
with the Imperial in the ion cannon type weapons deal. “I don’t see Quarren-Mon
Cala as our partner in implementing the agreement,” she said. “I see Quarren-Mon
Cala as our subject in implementing the agreement.”

Further, Organa made clear she would be
willing to launch Imperial planetary bombardments against Quarren-Mon Cala if
the regime attempted to contravene its agreement and build a superweapon fleet
anyway. “I will not hesitate to take planetary blockade actions if Quarren-Mon
Cala attempts to obtain an ion cannon-type weapon.”

Organa also tried to assuage Outer Rim
concerns about the Quarren-Mon Cala deal. She insisted the agreement makes Outer
Rim safer and told Outer Rim citizens that, if elected, “you’ll never have to
question whether we are with you. The Empire will always be with you”.

Organa introduced a five-point plan
focused on building sector alliances to counter what called “Quarren-Mon Cala’s
bad behavior in the sector”. This will include continued military aid to Outer
Rim planets in particular, as to the Empire’s Galactic allies, along with
taking steps to counter growing Quarren-Mon Calamarian influence in the Middle
Rim, particularly through proxy groups like Rebels. She will also emphasize the
need to crack down on Quarren-Mon Calamarian human rights abuses, and leave the
door open to broadening sanctions on the regime.

While majorities in the Imperial Senate
oppose the Quarren-Mon Cala deal, there will be sufficient support from old
Republic planets to stop it being blockaded. This will be alluded to by Organa,
who will say: “The outcome of the deal in the Empire is no longer in much
doubt.”

Under the terms of the deal the Quarren-Mon
Calamarians must eliminate 98% of their kyber crystal stockpile and remove
two-thirds of their kyber enrichment processors. That process, including
verification of Quarren-Mon Cala’s compliance by the Galactic Plasma Energy
Agency. In exchange an array of sanctions will be lifted against Quarren-Mon Cala,
releasing over 100 billion in Imperial Credits from blocked InterGalactic
Banking Clan accounts.

Organa also weighed in on the ongoing
refugee crisis in Salecuemi, saying that “there should be an emergency galactic
gathering, where the Empire tries to get commitments” from planets, modeled on
efforts after the galactic supernova in Humbarine sector. She said that, at
such a conference, “the Empire has to be at the table, if not leading it” in
effort to encourage all planets to either house refugees or provide funds to
support resettlement efforts.

Organa’s speech comes a few hours
before a rally opposing the deal is held in front of the Empire featuring Imperial
senatorial frontrunner Aveamut Heat as well as Senator Azha Hyperblast.
Opponents have argued the agreement is not sufficiently robust to prevent Quarren-Mon
Cala building an ion cannon-type weapon and the lifting of sanctions will lead
to increased Quarren-Mon Calamarian aid to terrorist groups and the Jedi
sympathizers.

The Emperor has positioned the historic
deal as the only viable pathway towards preventing Quarren-Mon Cala toward
obtaining an ion cannon-type weapon. Emperor Palpatine has argued that those
who want to tear up the agreement would be luring the Empire into another galactic
war.

“Let’s not mince words, the choice we
face is ultimately between diplomacy and some form of war. Maybe not tomorrow,
but soon,” Emperor Palpatine said in a previous speech.

A question raised by another audience member was about Padme Amidala – how did she just die not having the will to live?  video of Basically it all boiled down to the character being stressed.

So there is a future for strong female characters in Star Wars, how it will pan out? Who knows. Strong female writers, fans who will view the televisions shows and movies, and action on all our parts! What do we want? Let’s go and unleash our inner fandom!
