He resents the Chiss Ascendancy for exiling him despite his clandestine mission. But humans barely recognize his emotional displeasure as he is a Chiss. However, Chiss do recognize his resentful behavior and they discipline or ostracize anyone who displays that outwardly emotional behavior, which got Thrawn exiled as an example.
