The Grysks obtained tech to brainwash sentient beings. Somehow, Thrawn discovered a Grysk ship crash site. He found a dead Mairan that was well preserved. He took the carcass and had his scientists provide a necropsy. Based on the Imperial Pathology and Genetic databases did not match that of a Mairan from the planet, Maires. It appears that known genetic structures were artificially constructed and that mutations are unnatural. But it appears that this beast used was given to the Grysks to employ under greater masters, ones called by the Chiss as Far-Outsiders or–
