#StarWars Mixed-Raced Species Hybrids

There are several mixed-raced multi-species beings in Star Wars. During Imperial times, there was high human culture. In many of the new canon, like Bloodline and Rogue One, it seems high human culture  mentality has held up.

High human culture is human supremacy or specieism. Humans are the most trusted. Aliens are untrustworthy. Humans are inherently good. Aliens are not good. It is the same done by race in humans.

Therefore, most Aliens stuck to themselves with exception of a few:

The Grand Inquisitor – Pau’an

Grand Inquisitor

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Grand Admiral Thrawn

While both are full-bloodied Aliens, they still have near human and humanoid features that allow them to pass.

Interestingly, Darth Maul is a hybrid. His father is a Nightbrother Zabrak and his mother, Mother Talzin, is a Nightsister that is multi-species near human. Mother Talzin resembles human women more than she does any other species.

Darth Maul

All this to say if an Alien or mixed-raced species did not have the Force, there was little chance of success in life in the Empire AND the Rebellion due to human xenocentric chauvinism. Only one Alien was capable to be included in the Empire and that was Grand Admiral Thrawn. There are other aliens in the Empire, but over time, they were excluded in a separate class.  The propaganda machine would say the wars with the Separatists. But the war was started by the Sith to control the galaxy due to other incursions, thought to be the “Far-Outsiders” or Yuuzhan Vong.

The Yuuzhan Vong were very xenophobic, but that did not stop them from birthing mixed-raced species. Or stop their “Master Shaper” scientists inquiring about these beings to understand them for their gods.

Our original character, Senator Yemaja Lah is an example of that. Was forced to live separately from her father’s people for fear of being killed until they found a good use for her – passing in the human world before the oogalith masquer (Human mask).

It feels like Star Wars has a bit of a problem with mixed-raced species hybrids. The hatred toward them. Not highlighting them. Anti-alien bias because some fans and creators are oblivious and some are factually bigoted.

Star Wars Actors Guild 77 finds the mixed-species story intiguing. Which means most of our story arcs will be geared toward understanding this concept. We are doing this to support real-life multiracial people who are often castigated online. We are doing this to add a different layer to the discussion of freedom: Freedom to love.

This is not about saying real-life multiracial people are not human — yes, they are and more than ever. This is about treating people right, no matter their background can be a part of making unified approach devoid of dominating hatred. People can’t change who their parents are and they cannot change what they are. So why blame them? We have to change that. How is the question?

Why is the SW Books Facebook Page Gone?

You may have noticed that the Star Wars Books Facebook page has disappeared. First off, yes this was intentional. The page was not hacked and it was not deleted. It has been deactivated, which means that it is hidden from public view.

Why is it gone? Simple – we don’t want to contribute to anyone spoiling The Force Awakens

SWAG 77 Reads: Our reading list and how-tos by @JDMaul_Prods

Promoting reading through Star Wars Books

Here at SWAG 77 (Star Wars Actors Guild 1977), we highly encourage all fans of all “fanverses” to read the literature of their fandom. Of course when referring to us it is Star Wars books, comics, resource books, blogs, articles etc.  Hopefully you are reading right now!

This article however is about one thing:  BOOKS
SWAG 77 is preparing to discuss Star Wars: Scoundrels three chapters a week.

We also recently discussed Star Wars: The Clone Wars; Darth Maul: Shadow Conspiracy.

How SWAG 77 Reads Books:

It takes more than just reading to prepare for a podcast. Preparing for a podcast takes the following how-tos:

      1. Write a short summary after each chapter of the book
      2. Add your own commentary and thoughts
      3. Keep character logs for tracking character and story developments
  1. SUMMARY: When you read a book and look back it is hard to remember what happens on each individual chapter. However often in books discussions are split up based off of chapters. So we suggest writing a short summary after each chapter to look back on and ensure you understand what happened.
  2. COMMENTARY: It is important in a discussion to add commentary of what you think not recite what you know. Write down your thoughts as you go, predictions, theories, allusions, etc.  Either write them on a sticky note. We also annotate in the book margins.
  3. CHARACTER LOG: Sometimes keeping a character log can prove very beneficial. Write up a log of every character with a short description for each one.  Write up important things that happen to characters, any history that is important or any other things that may help you remember who is who. This way if there is a character that disappears for ten chapters you can flip back to the log and boom!

As the SWAG 77 Podcast prepares for the analysis of Star Wars: Scoundrels we would want you all to be prepared to follow along!

The discussion begins February 10th at 5:30 PM Pacific Time. It will only be on chapters 1-3. Expect an episode release a few days later.
